Some love stories begin with careful planning. Carly and Luke’s began with a canceled flight, a crowded Nashville honky-tonk, and a delightfully imperfect karaoke performance.
Their wedding day brought that unforgettable story full circle, celebrating their love in Carly’s Ohio hometown with meaningful family traditions, rich fall colors, and a breathtaking Leah Da Gloria gown.
The First Dress—and the One
Carly began her bridal shopping journey at Dimitra’s Bridal, where she stepped into Josephine by Leah Da Gloria—the very first wedding dress she tried on.
The gown immediately gave Carly the feeling every bride hopes to find. In her words, she felt “elegant, regal, and like a princess.”
Although she felt butterflies from the moment she tried it on, Carly wanted to be certain. Our team encouraged her to take her time, continue shopping, and return when she was ready. After visiting five additional boutiques and trying on approximately 47 gowns, Carly came back to where her search began.
She stepped into Josephine for the second—and final—time before saying yes to her dream dress.
“I had the best experience at Dimitra’s, and the entire staff made me feel so cared for,” Carly shared. “Everyone was extremely supportive and helpful throughout my dress search journey. They knew exactly what my vision was and steered me in the right direction.”
Carly also appreciated the kindness and flexibility she received throughout the weekend.
“They were so accommodating and made my close friends, family, and me feel so special,” she said. “I was so grateful that the Dimitra’s team allowed me to set up more time to come back and revisit the original dress I fell in love with.”
A Canceled Flight and a Life-Changing Night
In the summer of 2022, Carly was 23 and living in Nashville. She had plans to fly home to Ohio for the Fourth of July weekend, but a sudden flight cancellation changed everything.
Instead of staying home, Carly headed out with friends to Tin Roof on Demonbreun. Somewhere inside the crowded honky-tonk, an Ohio girl and a Minnesota boy spotted each other.
Carly took it upon herself to dance over to Luke, joking that she could practically sense his Midwestern roots. Their connection was immediate.
Within 24 hours, they found themselves at Wild Beaver Saloon performing Elton John’s “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” after Luke’s best friend bribed the DJ to let them sing. Their rendition may not have been flawless, but it marked the beginning of something extraordinary.
After several months filled with phone calls, video chats, and texts, Carly and Luke committed to a long-distance relationship. Nearly two years of flights, road trips, airline points, and truck miles followed. Along the way, their families fell in love with them, too.
Today, Carly and Luke live together in Chicago, surrounded by cherished friends and their beloved pets, Winnie and Polly. They truly believe fate had a plan for them from the beginning—and it is difficult to disagree.
A Sentimental Celebration in Canton
Carly and Luke married on a beautiful, sunny fall day in Carly’s hometown of Canton, Ohio. Their ceremony took place at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Carly’s childhood parish and the same church where her parents were married nearly 38 years earlier—in the very same month.
Following the ceremony, the wedding party gathered for photographs at Carly’s childhood home, joined by family, friends, and Winnie. It was a nostalgic and deeply personal part of an already meaningful day.
The celebration continued at Gervasi Vineyard, a venue that has held a special place in Carly’s heart since childhood.
“I grew up riding my bike through the vineyard and always said, ‘I’m going to get married here one day,’” she shared.
That childhood dream came true in the most beautiful way. Rose, burgundy, and gold hues created a warm and romantic fall atmosphere throughout the vineyard. An elegant wedding cake was designed to coordinate with the swans that grace the property’s pond, adding another enchanting detail to the celebration.
Guests enjoyed delicious food and drinks before dancing the night away to an incredible live band. Carly and Luke entered their reception to “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,” honoring the karaoke performance that started it all. For their first dance, a family friend performed Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.”
“We truly could not have asked for a better day,” Carly said. “What a blessing it was to celebrate my greatest love with all of my great loves surrounding us in my hometown.”
Nine months later, Carly is still basking in the joy of the day—and we are honored that Dimitra’s Bridal could play a part in her beautiful story.
